Buy a 1×30 and 220 silicon carbide belts and keep the belt wet with a sponge. Problem solved. I have a wet/dry 1×42 grinder and can drip water onto it with the top guard on. I only use it wet to sharpen knives for the most part as grinding hardened blades wet makes a mess. But at least it doesn't throw out a lot of dust.

I get 3/32 or 1/8" x 1.5" and the grinder does just fine. I trace out my knife blank and then cut off excess material with the angle grinder, then move on to the belt grinder. I use the norton blaze 36 grit to shape the "blank" and make the plunge line and first 5 or so passes, and it eats the material well.
