In an array that can take advantage of the wind from any direction, the GE needs 82 acres and the Vestas V90 111 acres per tower. In practice, the area varies, averaging ...

The tower once put together and tightened is very sturdy, the blades are one piece and made well. The problem with this windmill is the triangle piece at the top that holds shaft for the blade and the shaft for the tail fin and the shaft that also goes down into the tower to complete the windmill.

Another tricky part is the tower MUST be plumb and level or the Windmill won't sit plumb and level. I use the 2 legs as a sight and put the pipe and pump rod in the middle…and look both ways. Does this make sense? Use a level on the mast pipe above to get your level. Don't be afraid to climb the tower with the boom truck holding it up!

A windmill consists of multiple parts to function: Windmill head & gears, blades, tower, sucker rod, checks & cups, and don't forget the grease/oil to keep your parts lubricated properly. With all of these parts exposed to the weather conditions, this means you're more than likely going to have to replace parts again due to debris.

The tower was cranked down to my "away-from-home" park position of about 30 feet at the time. Our high winds seldom reach 60 mph; but this

The Aermotor style windmill uses a simple design to always keep the large tail vane into the wind and lets the wind wheel pivot or "yaw" around the center of the tower to slow the wheel down. This is done automatically, but we also supply a ground lever to turn the windmill out of the wind and set the brake.

The prop isn't that large so I made a windmill tower that is just over 6 1/2 feet tall and all from material that can be found at the big box store. Since it is an outdoor decoration I made mine from cedar since it's a naturally rot resistant wood but a slightly cheaper alternative would be to make it from treated or untreated pine.

Blades. There are three blades located on a wind turbine. When the wind is blown on them, they begin rotating, which spins the rotor.

A steady breeze turns the wheel of the windmill, drawing the pumping mechanism up and down into the well. Whether the water is deep inside the well or not too far from the surface, the wind provides the power to move the water where you need it most.
